Online Stationery Store
A client of ours needed a way to enforce their corporate identity
standards and to reduce the turnaround time on stationery orders. A
paper fax form had been used for years with traditional typesetting
and proofing. We suggested they move the process online and
eliminate the proofing step. We developed and continue to host a
website allowing any user logged in to our client’s intranet to
access all of their stationery items.
Each item has a unique web form that allows the user to specify the
information on their stationery. However, the corporate identity
standards and business rules were built in to these forms to ensure
data is entered properly. For example, the building number and floor
are part of the address. In the past these had been capitalized and
abbreviated differently on different cards by different departments.
Using drop down selections instead of free form typing allowed all
of this to be standardized.
Proofing is done online and the data captured generates the artwork
directly. This eliminated the typesetting process. Billing is tied
to cost center information collected at order entry for these
orders. So we were able to roll these items into the monthly
electronic billing process already in place for other purchases by
this client.
All of this allowed us to reduce the cost, reduce the turnaround
time, and improve the quality of the stationery produced for this
client. We have continued to refine and improve this program over
the five years it has been in operation.
